I think I can I think I can't

It's like the words of the song 'should I stay or should I go now.' except it's your thoughts that are keeping you in a state of indecision or fear or doubt or negative feelings about yourself, rather than a person!
The word says "As a man thinks in his heart so is he."
With your thoughts you can build your life up or with your thoughts you can pull it down. The thoughts in your heart and head can be God governed or you and the enemy governed.
There's a good reason why we declare Jesus CONTINUALLY as Lord over our lives. We are not meant to be thinking independently of him but molding our thought and ways to where they line up with his thoughts and his ways.
Many times it's what we are thinking and feeling at any given moment that controls our behavior. If were feeling annoyed about something, we start to think annoyed and mooody thoughts. Then we go on to behave that way till we get over it.
In Christ though, we are learning how to change this behavior and allow his Spirit to halt the bad thinking and feeling and bring it under God control so we start to change our behavior.
Thoughts are powerful! They can be sown by God into our spirit and create life giving freedom or be placed there by our enemy who's aim is to keep you from living the life of victory God wants you to be living.
Thoughts are divisive, they separate you from faith by introducing doubt into your belief pattern. This creates the problem of being stuck between two thoughts! Is what Gods saying true or is it not? Should I go this way or will it not work out?
A lot of people live this way governed by their unruly fleshly thoughts that war against what Gods word says.
James 1:5-9 says "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways and don't let that man think that he will receive anything from the Lord." It also talks about the man being likened to a wave tossed about on the sea shore. Driven first one way by his thinking and then back the other way as his doubting thoughts cut in.
If your not receiving from God then perhaps it has to do with your double minded thoughts!
There's a great story in 1 kgs 18:1-end, one of my favorites, about the prophet Elijah. It was crunch time in Israel. King Ahab and his nasty Queen Jezebel, had been filling the peoples minds up with the lies that the god Baal was the big noise to follow. Old jezebel had been knocking of Gods prophets by the score and now she had her sights set on Elijah.
However God told Elijah to gather all Israel to him at Mount Carmel, complete with King Ahab and the four hundred prophets of Baal.
Elijah speaks these profound words "how long are you going to halt (be tied up over) two opinions? If God be God then serve him but if Baal be the true God then serve him. It's time to decide!
"The god who answers by fire, we will follow."   In other words the God who's real and not just some earthly idol who can neither save, heal or touch your life for good, were going to serve.
Elijah proceeds to have the prophets of Baal construct an alter to their god and then sacrifice a cow to see if Baal will answer by fire. The prophets do a lot of dancing, make impressive speeches around the alter and get hot and frustrated as nothing but nothing happens. Not a sound, not as much as a tiny flame appears.
(every other god you serve in life will produce this same result for you. Every negative thought, every doubt, every lying voice you listen to.)
Finally Elijah stands up and repairs Gods broken down alter and digs a deep ditch around it filling the ditch with water and soaking the animal he's sacrificed. Then he says "Lord God of Israel let it be known this day that you are God in Israel and that I've done all this according to your word. Hear me oh Lord that all your people may  know that you are God and that you have turned their hearts back to you!"
The moment Elijah finished speaking, the FIRE  of God fell and consumed the sacrifice, alter stones and licked up the water in the trench.
The people threw themselves on the ground and started shouting the Lord he is God the Lord he is God!!
The way to get our lives out of negative, doubting thoughts is to have a fresh encounter with the fire of God. When you know he's real then you'll happily do what his word says and won't be stuck between two thoughts of I think I can, I think I can't, or I think he's real, I think he's not. You will just know that he is and your heart will be turned back toward the one who was your first love.
It's called a reality check. Gods real, his word is true, yes I believe him, yes I'm going to stand because nothing and no one but him is the source of life.
